Advancing Hearing
Through Intelligent Technology
Novaural develops patent-protected verification systems that transform how hearing professionals optimise hearing aid fittings. We are now seeking clinical partners to validate our platform in real-world settings.
Building the Future of
Audiological Verification
Novaural is a UK-registered medical deep-tech company dedicated to closing the gap between prescribed hearing and real-world outcomes.
Hearing aids are sophisticated devices, yet fitting them remains heavily dependent on subjective assessments and trial-and-error approaches. At Novaural, we believe every patient deserves a fitting that is objectively verified and quantitatively optimised.
Our approach combines phonemic discrimination science, signal processing engineering, and clinical protocol design into intelligent tools that empower hearing professionals to achieve better outcomes — faster.
Mission
To make evidence-based hearing aid verification accessible, efficient, and standard practice worldwide.
Approach
Deep-tech rooted in peer-reviewed audiology science — not assumptions, not anecdotes.
Based in the UK
Registered and operating from the United Kingdom, serving clinics globally.
Why Novaural Exists
Today, hearing aid fittings rely on patients describing their subjective experience. The result? Multiple follow-up visits, inconsistent outcomes, and frustrated patients who sometimes abandon their devices entirely.
We are developing technology that gives clinicians objective, quantitative data about how a patient actually perceives speech — transforming guesswork into evidence.
Hearing Aid Fitting Is Still
Trial and Error
Despite advances in hearing aid technology, the fitting process itself has barely changed. Three key problems persist across the industry.
Multiple Follow‑Up Visits
Patients return repeatedly because fittings are adjusted based on vague feedback — "it sounds too tinny" or "I can't hear in restaurants". Each visit costs time and money with no guarantee of improvement.
No Objective Measurement
Clinicians lack tools that quantify how well a patient actually discriminates speech sounds after fitting. Without data, adjustments are educated guesses at best.
High Abandonment Rates
Industry data shows significant hearing aid abandonment. Patients who don't experience clear improvement quickly are likely to stop using their devices altogether.
Introducing ReFittingLab
A working software platform that gives clinicians the data they need to optimise fittings — quantitatively. Currently operational and seeking clinical validation partners.
Phonemic Discrimination Testing
Scientifically validated minimal pairs test how patients perceive individual speech contrasts (e.g., /s/ vs /θ/, /p/ vs /b/) — revealing precisely where the fitting falls short.
Quantitative Adjustment Engine
Our patented algorithm translates phonemic errors into specific, per-frequency gain adjustments — replacing guesswork with evidence-based recommendations.
Multi‑Level Protocol
Tests at 50, 65, and 80 dB SPL verify audibility, intelligibility, and comfort in a single structured session covering real-world listening conditions.
Multilingual Design
Modular language-pack architecture with support for English (UK) and Spanish, with additional languages ready to be added.
How ReFittingLab Works
A structured, evidence-based workflow that integrates seamlessly into existing clinical practice.
Input Patient Profile
Enter audiogram, current gains, and clinical context. The system configures the optimal test protocol automatically.
Administer Tests
Guided phoneme discrimination testing at multiple levels, with speech-in-noise and directionality verification.
Analyse Results
The algorithm maps phonemic errors to frequency bands and calculates precise gain adjustments for each channel.
Apply & Verify
Apply recommendations in your fitting software, then re-test to confirm measurable improvement in discrimination.
Per-Band Gain Adjustment Example
Only frequency bands where the patient shows a measured speech discrimination deficit are modified. Healthy bands remain untouched.
Ready for Clinical Validation
Our core technology is built, our intellectual property is protected, and we are actively seeking partners to validate the platform in clinical settings.
Research & Development
Algorithm design based on peer-reviewed audiology literature. Multi-level phonemic discrimination protocol developed and tested.
Software Platform Built
Working desktop application with full test workflow, quantitative adjustment engine, patient management, and bilingual support (EN/ES).
Intellectual Property Protected
Patent application filed with UKIPO — 47 claims covering the core algorithm, testing methodology, and adjustment engine.
Clinical Validation & Partnerships
Seeking NHS trusts, private clinics, and research institutions to participate in clinical validation pilots. This is our current focus.
Regulatory Pathway & National Deployment
Regulatory compliance, commercial launch, and wider deployment across audiology services.
We're Looking for Partners
Novaural is seeking clinical validation partners across the UK hearing care ecosystem. If your organisation is interested in improving fitting outcomes through evidence-based technology, we'd love to talk.
NHS Trusts & AHSNs
Pilot programmes to validate impact on waiting lists, follow-up rates, and patient outcomes.
Private Clinics
Early adoption opportunities with direct technical support and co-development of clinical workflows.
Research Institutions
Collaborative research into phonemic discrimination methods and fitting verification science.
Better Outcomes for Everyone
ReFittingLab creates value across the entire hearing care ecosystem — from NHS trusts to private practices to patients.
For NHS & Public Health
Efficiency at scale
- ✓ Reduce follow-up visits — Objective verification in the first session means fewer return appointments clogging waiting lists.
- ✓ Shorten waiting lists — Faster, more efficient fitting sessions free up clinic capacity for new patients.
- ✓ Standardise quality — Quantitative protocols reduce variability between clinicians and clinics.
- ✓ Evidence for commissioners — Measurable outcomes data supports service quality reporting and funding justification.
For Private Clinics
Competitive advantage
- ✓ Differentiating technology — Offer patients verifiable proof of fitting quality that competitors cannot match.
- ✓ Reduce staff costs — Shorter sessions and fewer follow-ups mean lower cost per patient.
- ✓ Higher conversion rates — Patients who experience measurable improvement in-session are more likely to commit.
- ✓ Lower return rates — Getting the fitting right the first time reduces costly device returns and exchanges.
